The headquarters of Casa Mediterráneo are located in the former train station of Benalúa, in Alicante, a historic building officially opened in 1887 which represented the starting point of the railway connection Alicante-Murcia due to its proximity to the harbour.

It was designed by the engineer M. Alessandri and its façade has barely been modified over the years, which has allowed us to preserve it almost exactly as it was originally built.

It was included in the Local Catalogue for the Protection of Sites, but in the late 60s, when the train station shut down, it was abandoned progressively until it was fully inactive by the 80s.

On July, 14th 2009, the Spanish Railway Infrastructure Manager (ADIF as per the Spanish acronym) granted the building to Casa Mediterráneo to use it as the headquarters of the Public Consortium.

After several years of construction works, on April,1st 2013, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, officially opened the current headquarters of Casa Mediterráneo.

Nowadays, the last stage of the restoration project is still pending until the building permit is granted.
